From the Directorate of History and Heritage, NDHQ, Ottawa, Canada: No Higher Purpose, Volume II Part 1 of the Official History of the Royal Canadian Navy will be published in both French and English by Vanwell Press of St Catharine’s, Ontario during the winter of 2002/2003. This volume, by W.A.B. Douglas, Roger Sarty and Michael Whitby, covers the period between the outbreak of war in September 1939 and the creation of Canadian Northwest Atlantic Command in April 1943. Operational in focus, it describes the RCN’s massive and rapid mobilization, as well as its critical role in the Battle of the Atlantic. Volume II, Part 2, which will cover the remainder of the Second World War, should be on the shelf in 2003/2004.
