From Professor John Hattendorf, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island:

John H. Schroeder of the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee has been awarded The Navy League’s  Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt Prize for Naval History and the John H. Lyman Award of the North American Society for Oceanic History for his biography Matthew Calbraith Perry: Antebellum Sailor and Diplomat (Naval Institute Press).

John B. Hattendorf and Richard W. Unger, eds., War at Sea in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance ( Boydell and Brewer) is scheduled for publication in October 2002.  This volume of conference proceedings is a first attempt to provide a broad theoretical understanding of war at sea in the period from 1000 to 1650 and to deal with the misleading applications of Mahan's interpretations to these periods. Developments in both Northern and in Southern Europe are examined in a comparative way.
