Professor Holger H. Herwig was appointed Canada Research Chair in Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary in 2002. In May and June 2002 he joined film producer James Cameron aboard the Russian research vessel Keldysh for a series of dives to film the wreck of the German battleship Bismarck. On 1-2 June Herwig and Cameron entered the Mir 1 submersible and dove 4850 meters down to the wreck. The filming will be presented in a two-hour documentary on the Discovery Channel in Sunday, 8 December 2002.
