Regarding Information on Professor Arthur Marder

and

Captain Stephen Roskill

For a biographical, historical, book-length study I am completing on two of the greatest naval historians of the twentieth century, Arthur Marder and Stephen Roskill, I seek personal remembrances and copies of correspondence with or about these two. My research has taken me on four occasions to University of California Irvine and on five times to Churchill College Cambridge, besides visits to Kings College London (Liddell Hart Archives), the National Archives at Kew, the National Maritime Museum, Oxford University Press Archives, etc.  Missing in my trawl, though attempts have been made, is information about either at Naval War College, Naval Academy at Annapolis, and the U.S. Naval Historical Center, Department of the Navy. I have not been able to trace FBI or CIA reports on either.

Although I am confident I have the main documentary basis for the intertwining lives of these fascinating historians (and the juicy spat between them) I am as a last remaining signal sending out this scholar's MayDay --  so that I can get the material before the book is finished. Thanks in advance for all who provide information and support in this query.  Professor Barry Gough, PO Box 5037, Victoria, BC, Canada V8R 6N3  phone 250 592 0800; email: bgough@wlu.ca.
