Tribute to Lieutenant Commander Andrew David, Hydrographic Historian
The
Maritime Museum of British Columbia, Victoria, hosted a conference
"What's New to Say about Captain George Vancouver" on 21 April
2006. Papers on the history of hydrography, natural history,
exploration and international rivalry were presented. Andrew David is
best known for his Charts and Views of Captain Cook's Voyages, published
by the Hakluyt Society, to accompany the Cook Journals edited by John C.
Beaglehole. He is also known for his co-editing of the Alejandro
Malaspina circumnavigation, also published by the Hakluyt Society. A
book of essays and illustrations will be published, edited by Barry
